Erdogan on new Constitution: “let’s stop playing democracy”

ANKARA, TURKEY — On one of his many declarations to the international press, Turkish President Erdogan said he was in favor of a constitution that “would take into account recent political developments” in Turkish society.

According to the Head of State, it would be a matter of “transposing our reality into the law”.

The main measures he announced include a reform of the presidential office, who would become “for life, irremovable, and of divine right”.

The President’s powers would also be extended, allowing him “to lock up any individual presenting a real or supposed danger without the usual procedure, too expensive and too slow”.

At publishing time, the experts working to include human rights in the project assured “having taken care to exclude Kurds, Armenians and everything who’s not a Turk, we’re serious here, guys”.
